My photographic practice investigates the relationships and associations involving photography and everything socially labeled as extraordinary, paranormal and supernatural, but which, in fact, has concrete social implications in the world of the living. Through photography, I investigate narratives that tension the relationships between the documentary and the fictional, between the photographic image and its role in the construction and maintenance of regimes of truth. My interest lies in the capacity of photography to transit between fiction and reality, using the photographic image and its role as guarantor of reality to evoke memories and narratives where the unusual and the ordinary coexist and complement each other. There were those who believed that the camera would be the device capable of crossing the existing boundaries between the physical and the metaphysical. My work is a way of saying that, in some way, this is an analogy that I continue to believe in.

Willian Ferreira.
